1 optimization and 2 links to your site
Optimization:
Once you have selected keywords (dont use lots and be taregted if its a small site/spread many across targeted pages if not)
Put your main keywords in your page title
name the page after the keyword if possible - /lesbian-sex-links.htm for eg.
Meta descriptiion is important - especially for directories (2 sentences - keyword rich - dont repeat words more than three times if poss)
General content - body text isnt massively weighted when ranking but its worth looking at the keywor density on your pages and trying to get your main words to between 4 and 14 % depending on competitions.
Titles, headers (h1 and h2 tags), bold text, italic - try to make them contain important text
images - you can name them after keywords if you want especially of they are what they say - add alt image tags
Internal links - Important - Google adds allot of weight to the anchor text that you link with and the content of the target page (where the link goes to) - on page links will benefit your SE rankings if they have keywords in they.
If you use images for links use the title="keyword attribute to describe the link (i.e. <a title"keyword" href.....> in the link code.
Link popularity
get like sites to link to you to boost you page rank.
if you have the google tool bar you can search for links to your competitors sites by using the info button or just stik some adds out on boards asking for partners usually sorts me out
