As far as I know, DC is actually more dangerous. Since AC reverses polarity several times per second, it tends to make limbs convulse rather than freeze. I've been electrocuted before through one hand, and both times my arm was 'thrown' painfully away from my body. If it was DC I probably would have been fried.
Of course DC by itself isn't dangerous - you won't die if you stick your tongue on a 9V battery... but if you connect your tongue to 1000VDC you'll most likely have some problems
