MyIsam vs. InnoDB

What could be some of the reasons of choosing one over the other?

I know non-transactional tables are supposed to be much faster but I read some good things about InnoDB, even regarding its speed. Is it possible that you might get the same or a better performance than MyIsam?

(assume that the database to work on would be several gigs big)
