went down this rabbit hole recently so i'll share what we learned.
biggest thing imo is geo-gating - only gate visitors from countries/states that actually require it. a full site gate punishes traffic from places with zero legal requirement, and thats most of the world right now. sounds like ageverification.org already does this which is the right approach
other thing: if you're weighing face age estimation vs ID upload - estimation converts way better but the models are genuinely shaky in the 16-19 borderline range. young teens get caught fine, obvious adults pass fine, but the edge cases overlap a lot. NIST testing shows the same pattern so its not a vendor specific thing. regulators mostly accept estimation anyway, just dont expect it to be bulletproof
haven't tried go.cam myself, curious if anyone has numbers on how much traffic the gate actually costs you
