Onlyfans had the advantage of making themselves mainstream, and not looking 'dirty'.
In the UK they had story after story in newspapers from models who were talking about how they made thousands from the site.
It became the new site to make money from.
It also seemed to hit the right time during lockdown when people were at home.
Then came the wave of actors and celebs who turned to onlyfans to make an income.
Suddenly doing porn was no longer degrading but a new feminist power (it is interesting how peoples morals change when they need cash).
Onlyfans basically got a LOT of free and often positive publicity in the press.
That is why it is a lot harder to compete.
However I suspect nich (not sure if I spelt that correctly) onlyfans type sites could I suspect do well. I could see such as a goth/alt site doing well that only has goths/alt models.
I would also consider a sfw type site as well. Such as only bikini pics or underwear, this should avoid problems with such as age verification where fans have to age verify themselves. A non nude site.
