have an unapologetic and intense love affair with water so deep that I wrote a whole damn thread about it, so obviously biased. but it also serves to boost energy/alertness and helps flush bad stuff out of the body through the kidneys. also helps keep the face from looking like a shed snake skin

avoiding water can't be for weight loss...anything lost to dehydration would just be gained back 'pon resuming intake. eating a slice of watermelon with a glass of water is a much better way to control water retention and balance electrolytes. plus organs need water to function at their best, at least as how I understand this stuff which is def not expert-level

I get why Nikki did it, she's a good Jew. unlike others here (ahem Eddy )

just curious what possible upside there is to avoiding water aside from doing so for a relig reason? genuine question
Because it speeds up the health effects provided by fasting. With regular water fasting, the body needs 1-2 days to get into the autophagy effect, where it replaces the old and corrupted cells with new cells, so basically the last day is the most benefitial day during a 3 day water fast. BUT if the body has no water, the whole process is sped up a bit...so the body gets into the autophagy phase faster and a 24-36 hour dry fasting might be just as effective as a 3 day water fast. Thats the only reason really...I prefer water fasting as I don't mind doing it for 3 days or a bit beyond even.

I don't do this for weightloss reasons at all...yeah, I can lose some fat since I do my regular workouts even during fasting, but the main goal is just healing the body from within.
