The guy in Rochard's example did not 'seek asylum'. He almost certainly crossed the border illegally.
Overstaying your Visa: no big deal? OK - try and do that in any other country and see what happens, especially if you overstay and then start living as if you have legal rights to be there. Good luck.
Both Democrats and Republicans have been hitting the illegal immigration issue for years. More deportations under Obama than anyone else.
