The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Vancouver Community College (VCC), and colleges like North Island College (NIC) and the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) provide training for automotive service technicians through programs like the Automotive Foundation Certificate. These programs focus on hands-on training in vehicle systems, repair, and diagnostics and just may offer you to take your car and fix it for much cheaper if not free for supervised training.
I know growing up as a teen I used the high school mechanics class as a way to repair my car - it was pretty much free unless they needed parts that the school didn't have in stock.
