Yes, you still need to verify age in locations that require it, besides the UK. Last time I checked, there were 21 states (+/- a few) on the list. Most of the penalties and/or enforceable actions are civil/private lawsuits, but 3 of the states can charge you on whatever as a criminal offense.
I have no idea if any of that will happen, but I did see a "private lawsuit" in the works against 4 websites and they are seeking an amount in the tune of $14 million. Maybe there are others. Retarded if you ask me, but it doesn't look like much of a fight was put into preventing these laws (in court).

I understand you're looking for a quick easy solution. My suggested method may or may not be quick and easy or plug and play, depends on each platform. I personally don't think geotargeting the users and only depending on that data is the smartest move, because that data isn't always accurate and the user can simply use many other methods to browse and hide / change their location. And you'll still be on the hook for a private lawsuit. Whether they win or not, it will cost you $$ to defend. I highly doubt YOTI, or any of the other providers will be on the hook for anything. Do they have any sort of "guarantee" in their terms that state they will represent you in the event of a lawsuit? Doubt it.
