There isn't an infinite amount of money being spent, though. There are lots of girls that won't make much money, waste their time, and have to go back to a real job and complain about the other girls making money..
Kind of like this industry. In the beginning the affiliate marketer to buyer ratio was tiny, making things like adding a link in Yahoo Groups enough to buy a house easily and more. Now, there are so many more affiliates, but more money as a whole is being spent, but all we hear are people not knowing why competing sites are doing better than theirs, 0 signups, 1:100000 ratios, paysites are lacking on updates and keep being resold, and more people are working hard on the tech side and not the sales side, thinking that if only their site was coded better then sales will come in... But the real issue is saturation and competition.
It's going to crash for a lot of people sooner or later.
