My dad was a very deeply religious man and when I brought it home he was upset that I bought a music album and insisted on listening to it along with the family. I kept telling him that i would prefer hearing it on my own and it was my money (as a ran to my room to remove the girls on a bicycle nude poster insert).

He then put it on the stereo console that has brilliant sound to it - wasn't cheap. He cranked it up to 8 out of 10 not knowing what to expect - I was terrified

I'll never forget the look in his eyes when the lyrics came on

Are you gonna take me home tonight?
Oh, down beside that red firelight
Are you gonna let it all hang out?
Fat bottomed girls, you make the rockin' world go round
I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew life before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman, you made a bad boy out of me....

The look of shock on my dad's face - the Academy Award I should have won for keeping a straight face when he turned the sound down and looked at me in anger - my only response was, "but it said Jazz on the album - I thought it was a Jazz album!!!!!"

He handed me back the album and told me to take it back to the store which I never did.
My parents liked their oldies as you would expect, but they didn't mind the music that my brother and I would buy. Pink Floyd, AC/DC, etc... My parents never encouraged or discouraged any type of music we would listen to, as long as we listened and enjoyed it.

My Dad always encouraged me when it came to science. We would build electronic kits all the time, look at water and plants through a microscope, and try to learn what those weird sounds were on shortwave radio. My Mom on the other hand, encouraged me to watch science fiction movies. She didn't care much for Star Wars, but she loved Silent Running and Forbidden Planet, which I grew to love too.

I had cool parents.
