that's marketing fad from 2000s, many people built successful businesses on domains purchased for reg fee.
all those aftermarket sites are pushing people to price their domains beyond any logic so they will earn higher comission.
as they list millions of domains, some of those will sell sooner or later, they don't care how much will it take for a seller's overpriced domain to sell.
also there is a lot of fake sales to motivate people to sell through them and money laundering when it comes to domain aftermarket sites since it's an unregulated market.
domains are virtual and intangible goods and at the end in most cases real value/price is established in private deals, not by aftermarket brokers.
