Nikon Coolpix 4000 grief

Hi all

I've had some grief this morning with a Nikon Coolpix 4000, and I'd like to know if anyone else has similar problems..

First problem was scanning some colour slides I shot at Riverfire down here.. Got some very nice time-lapse shots of the fireworks (borderline boring), and the two F-111 fly-overs (fucking awesome). Unfortunatly, the best slide of the F-111 flyover got scanned totally out of focus. I had autofocus selected when I scanned the slides, and the slide itself is crystal clear, but the focus on the scan itself is for shit. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the fact that its a very dark shot, with a very very bright orange streak right across the frame, which doesnt have well-defined borders.

The other problem was the frame edge detection when scanning a strip of 6 black and white negatives (Ilford FP-4+, off a 100ft roll so no machine-readable markings in the rebates). After the first few on this strip, it lost it completely and scanned them about 1/3 of the way out of alignment.

Yes, I could just rescan it, but I did this at a digital imaging shop and paid through the nose to get an hour alone with this scanner. If these problems are going to happen again, I'd rather save my money.

Thanks
