Bush is well educated, traveled and very intelligent:
Quote:
about the 43rd president's intellect. Since the text concerned is in the US state department website, however, there's a chance it may be true.
The words were spoken by Mr Bush to Japan's Diet (parliament) 10 days ago. "My trip to Asia begins here in Japan for an important reason." Applause. "It begins here because for a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times. From that alliance has come an era of peace in the Pacific.
And in that peace, the world has witnessed the broad advance of prosperity and democracy throughout east Asia." Stirring stuff ... and yet, there's something about the mention of the Pacific that rings a faint bell.
Is it just me or do you get a feeling in your water that Mr Bush forgets something from the past 150 years? Some minor difference of opinion between FDR and Hirohito? A small dust up in Hawaii, followed by some judicious retaliation in a couple of major Japanese cities? I just wish I could put my finger on it.
