This smart method of marketing is something I have posted about many years ago, but still worth posting again.
Television X for those who do not know is or was a TV adult station on satalight TV.
What they did (I have not seen it for years so I have no idea if they still do this) is show a few mins of soft core porn then scramble, and you have to pay to watch.
However...
UK law did not (I presume still does not) allow hard core porn, even scrambled.
So they would show cut versions of a film, or what some porn firms did was shoot with a second camera but at an angle where you see not a great deal, then sell that footage to Television X and put the hardcore on VHS and DVD to sell.
This meant that most of not all the cost of the shoot was paid for by selling the film to Television X, but also it turned out that people went out and purchased the real hard core version of the film so they could see the real stuff.
This is a trick that I suspect few porn makers do these days. The idea is shoot with two cameras. One getting the hard stuff and another moving so you see next to nothing (a very soft core version). You give the soft core version away free (such as tube sites) and you get lots of views, and people wanting to join your site to see the rude stuff.
At the moment the result is, many sites post or did post full films, and people then had seen what they wanted and did not join. Or to be crude, they watched the film, played with themselves, came, then were done (if you get me). That tends to be the problem with porn, is that you need in truth to get the sale before a chap comes, as once he has, it is unlikely he will be looking at porn, and have gone of to play a computer game or whatever.
