I would personally never join a site that looks like all the other cookie cutter sites out there. My favorite site designs are ATK, FullBush, AuntJudys... sites that are very simple and make a TON of money. Fancy graphics only impress the people that design them, and the people that paid the designers.

Thats funny because I thought they must also impress the 1000's of members who join sites we have designed each and every day! These are well known sites as well, I've never heard of those ones you listed.
