well, the thruth is not always in the middle... and an attitude like that is certainly dangerous... implying that the opposition (of certain decisions) is ALWAYS partisan... and the party in power will always do a fairly good job without causing major damage (based on US history) ...
THe modern era is new, only 2 world war... anything can happen... dont look at history for confort
