Yes they are, in some states only. That is much more pertinent information (hospitalizations vs cases) and I'm glad you brought that up. Most people never care to talk about the nuances and multiple factors that make up this pandemic. They only show you a graph of cases and use it to justify whatever response they see fit.

In Florida, it's mostly young people testing positive, which means nothing as they recover quickly. So while cases may be rising there (we don't know for sure but it could be), they don't have the same problem others do. They don't need to be alarmed.

Arizona has a problem. Why though? Inadequate health system? Aging population? Obesity problem? They may have to deal with the opening differently although again, nobody talks about what's going on. What happens there may not happen elsewhere.

This is a virus. It's not going away. People are supposed to get sick. We have to manage it and not avoid it because we can't. The more we stay locked down, the longer this will be drawn out and the more devastating the consequences for us all down the road (on top of how bad it already will be because of the 4 months in lockdown already).
Two points: while young people are testing positive more this IS a problem. Why? Because they can be spreaders to people less equipped to deal with it (elderly, existing conditions, etc). And when I see the data from Fl, Texas and AZ (and Alabama and S.Carolina and a few other States) it shows me that hospitalizations and ICU stays are rising along with the test results. NOT good.

And yes, it's a virus and we must learn to live with it. But unlike other viruses (like the flu) we do not have sufficient tools yet to "live with it". No mass immunity, no vaccine, varied treatments but nothing universal....so again this is UNlike other viruses we have learned to live with. Will we live with this eventually? Yes - but not for another year or more. Until then: wear a mask!

People are acting like they have to wear masks 24/7 and what a hardship it is. My God people we're talking a few minutes a day at most, when you go out to the store, etc. Amazing.
