Man, have you been to a school? Have your leaned what airborne disease is? How do you think this infection is being transmitted? A teleportation? No, it's being transmitted via drops of water by the air and the mask stops them very well. The closet analogy is a condom. Do you know that it has pores that are much-much-much larger than a virus or HIV? So how it does protect you? Ah? It does protect you because the pores are too small for molecules of water, so those can't pass through them. HIV can not be teleported. It must be in the fluids you exchange with and your sex partner. This is how a mask (properly made and properly weared) works against
ALL airborne diseases. Course you may breath some infection from the holes between your mask and your face, but the concentration usually won't be enough to make you sick. Just like if you will kiss a girl with HIV. She has the virus in her saliva... but not enough to infect you.
It's a shame you haven't learned the things in a Soviet school. The US education is something...

That's a usual routine here in Russia to wash your hands and face when you enter a home. Also you should take off your shoes and change your street clothes to home ones (if you are entering your own apartments). So nothing has changed for us at all...
