This is one way Yersinia Pestis, responsible for 300,000,000+ deaths and the most successful killer of humans besides humans, is fiendishly clever.

It blocks up the mouths of fleas, so that they can't eat and starve, and as they become increasingly insane with hunger, they bite anyone and everyone, thus spreading the virus more rapidly.
