The friend I lost was on his way home from a movie with his brother, his brother's girlfriend, and another friend. A drunk hit them, the car caught fire and the only survivor was the brother's girlfriend (she was seriously injured). To make it worse, the boys' dad was a firefighter and was one of the first responders on the scene.

At least the guy that caused the accident got more seriously punished. He was sentenced to 20 years. I'm not sure how much he actually served.
