I'm not an American but from the outside looking in...all y'all are acting pretty messed up. your nation to me appears to be experiencing a fundamental divide based on rage on both 'sides' that harms everyone, and everyone is too amygdala'ed up to realize it, or care
the internet is making it worse I think, the 4th estate which was hanging on by a shred to begin with has now become a field where anyone with a domain and shared hosting account can post whatever the fuck they want and call it journalism. memes and talking points and endless copy/pasting and no one actually listens to each other
for real, can you imagine if everyone in the US got off social media for a week and started talking to each other IRL? it wouldn't solve anything immediately, but it would be a start
this isn't a gfy thing btw, I see this everywhere which is one of the reasons I spend very little time online aside from work. it's demoralizing to see a nation that could be really great just spiraling down where it is normal to rage against one's fellows
for your political system to work you have to be able to talk to each other, to compromise, to build on different ideas to create systems that are greater than the sum of their parts
a big issue that has confronted America for a while is not left or right, but rather the rural, suburban and urban divides in allocating votes, resources and political attention. think it would be cool if someone started organizing bus tours where peeps could venture out and interact with peeps in areas outside their own communities. no slogans, no political bent, just people wanting to meet and understand other people. it's hard to see an enemy when you're looking right into their eyes
who knows though
good luck, no church in the wild
