Minorities in the 1940s/50s had businesses, their own communities, etc. Sure enough there were problems with the share croppers but that had less to do with skin color and everything to do with being stupid, desperate, and it was a hold-over of the bullshit from the 1930s.
As for lynching...
I hate to burst everyone's bubble but more often than not, the fucker had it coming to him. Sure enough the history books paint a nice rosy victim picture that the poor black guy was just looking at the girl. But the truth is that no one wanted to talk about how he raped her. The girl didn't want to come forward because of the shame of being defiled.
Perhaps maybe that's just the way things were back then... People took care of their own problems and didn't go crying to government to fix everything for them.
