The main problem is politicians and bureaucrats aren't clever enough to run anything as large as the EU. We can see that clearly in America, the present politician is a result of bad leaders, the EU is now facing the fact that none of the present bunch are bright enough to run a bath let alone a country. We also see it with the EU. With endless rules coming out of the EU that are just made to keep bureaucrats looking busy.
Ultimately the choice is do you want to be ruled from the centre for very little benefit or do you want to rule your own country?

your problem is that you cry for democracy but donīt understand that the BASIC IDEA behind democracy are compromises.
whenever you make a rule you will hurt someone. whenever you delete a rule you will hurt someone.
UK proved that it can not even find a solution when they have it in their own hands.
