 This doesn't stop E.coli but it limits its spread.
 
 Cooking will kill most E.coli, its naturally in our guts for us to be healthy .. however there's a few strains of it that are really nasty and avoid those at all costs.
 
 I go to Thailand once a year and the first two weeks I have to be super careful of what I eat or my ass explodes, after two weeks I can eat any street food with the locals, we as westerners have lost most of the good bacteria from our guts.

It's not just meat though.. the last outbreaks were from lettuce. I do however agree that we tend to be overboard on some stuff. The immune system needs practice to stay in shape if everything is 100% sanitized our immune system doesn't need to work and becomes weak.
