It depends on how you do it. You have to be careful to eat a balanced diet or you won't get enough protein or some minerals. I did a vegan diet for several months and regularly felt sluggish and tired then I went into the doctor and found out I had a big iron deficiency because I wasn't eating the correct stuff.
Also, you have to find ways to get protein and a lot of people don't do a good job at that.
