Why do you think the guy that approached the kid and started beating a fucking drum inches from his face wasn't being a dick? Any man gets that close to me, I put my hand on his chest and push him away. If he pushes back, I shove him hard. If he comes back after that, I punch him in the fucking face. Being a "Native American elder" (whatever the fuck that means) doesn't give you an asshole pass.
