well if they disenfranchise enough of them they could actually swing elections...close to 7 million americans can not vote and most of them are in for non violent crimes...at least 5 million of them are brown or black...that is certainly a nice 5-10% theoretical advantage for republicans...
you have to admire how they not only found a way to win racist votes, profit from private incarceration services, profit from incarcerated slave labor, profit from the war on drugs and also get an edge in elections by taking away their voting rights...sheeeet they even make them pay out of the ass for phone calls...in prison phone calls cost like a days labor
