Former AG Matt Whitaker turns states witness against Trump today after closed hearing

Now Whitaker is another witness that Trump tried to obstruct justice in the Mueller investigation and also in Michael Cohen's case.

Former acting AG Matt Whitaker testified under oath today, in a closed congressional hearing, that he and Trump discussed Cohen & his case & having Whitaker fire attorneys at SDNY where Cohen's case is held.

He testified that Trump also discussed with him the scope of Southern District New York U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman and his recusal, and whether or not the Southern District went too far in pursuing the campaign finance investigation in which the president was listed as individual number one.

Nadler: Matt Whitaker ‘Did Not Deny’ Trump Called Him to Discuss Michael Cohen Case

Former acting attorney general Matthew Whitaker spoke with the top members of the House Judiciary Committee, and per Chairman Jerrold Nadler, there were some significant revelations:

“One, unlike in the hearing room, Mr. Whitaker did not deny that the president called him to discuss Michael Cohen, the Michael Cohen case, and personnel decisions in the southern district. Two, while he was acting attorney general, Mr. Whitaker was directly involved in conversations about whether to fire one or more U.S. attorneys. Three, while he was acting attorney general, Mr. Whittaker was involved in conversations about the scope of the Southern District of New York U.S. Attorney Berman’s recusal, and whether the Southern District went too far in pursuing the campaign finance case in which the president was listed as Individual-1.”

You may recall the New York Times report from last month which said that Trump spoke with Whitaker and asked “whether Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York and a Trump ally, could be put in charge of the widening investigation” into Cohen.

Trump denied that report and said, “That’s more fake news. There’s a lot of fake news out there. No, I didn’t.”
