But it doesn't go into the "local area". It goes elsewhere.

In this case, we are talking about NYC. How many of these employees will live in NYC? More than half of the people who work in NYC do not live in NYC. Amazon isn't going to pay any taxes in NYC or even NY. More of than half of the employees will live outside of NYC; Most of those will live in NJ and will pay taxes there.

Also, it does not send a message to other businesses not to come to NY or NYC. I am sure NY and NYC welcomes new businesses. However, it does send a message saying "Don't come here and expect us let you get away with murder".

I'm sorry, but Amazon is making billions in profit and not paying ANY taxes.

I wouldn't want Amazon to come to my hometown. I couldn't imagine it. Amazon would set up shop here in town and not pay ANY taxes to my city government? Having 25k employees would require huge increases in police, fire, and other city employees.... It would mean a net loss to the city government and county government.

San Jose - not to far from me - pitched Amazon but offered no tax incentives: https://www.npr.org/2019/02/15/69515...ntives-for-you

I'm sorry, but businesses shouldn't be going to our government and demanding huge tax concessions.
