It's not an opinion, it's fact.
No one can win a war in Afghanistan.
For centuries they have fought each other and only united when someone tried to occupy the country be they helpful or oppressing. The British couldn't do it and later the Russians failed. So getting out is the only option and as it holds no real significance we lose little. Should they harbour groups like Al Qaeda then bomb the fuck out of them.
This is the same in the ME unless an occupying force is willing to use draconian measures to suppress all resistance. Present and past leaders have learned that lesson or have been over thrown in favour of leaders who will use draconian methods to suppress opposition.
However the ME is important to the West for oil.
So the only alternative is to befriend the Muslim leaders who are friendly to the West and allow them to use methods we despise. This is what we do in Saudi and a few other countries. Then should rebel groups threaten they are to be dealt with over whelming force, by local troops supported with Western technology.
The problem with this solution is the media and the liberals who peddle a myth that we can be nice and win. A policy doomed to fail.
