Join content partner programs on the big tubes. Upload 4-8 minute clips of some of your videos. Somewhere between 5% and 10% of your content. That's what everyone else is doing.
All the content partner programs will give you header links on your videos, some of them will even give you NTV banners. These are probably your best source of free traffic that will convert. And some of them even offer revshare on the ad revenue, or allow you to join their premium site (for example you could get some of your full-length HD videos on pornhub premium and get some revshare).
You could probably make media buying work if you get your tracking set up properly and split-test keyword targeting and find the right site placements. I'd recommend exoclick. But it's not easy, the learning curve is steep, and it's easy to throw away a lot of money on low-quality site placements, as you've seen.
