One thing that I think helps the Democrats is that Trump is now the known quantity. Before he was all bluster and promises and he talked a good game that a lot of middle class blue collar people listened to. He hasn't delivered on those things and many of those voters voted Democrat during the midterms.
Trump, like any incumbent, will have to run on his record. He still has two years which is a long time, but I can't see it getting better for him, only worse.
If the Democrats run Hilary, they will likely lose. I think any other Democrat has a real shot at beating Trump. That said, I would prefer they ran someone young who can energize the young voters like Obama did.
Trump barely beat Hilary and she was the most disliked candidate in history and she was under active investigation. He could barely beat her then, I think he is going to struggle mightily against someone without her baggage while having to defend himself.
