Kids at this age don't really appreciate the presents, they prefer the wrapping paper and boxes. So maybe bring him a small stuffed animal or something, but give his parents a $100 or so gift card to Toys R Us or Kaybee Toys or Wal Mart or some such, so that his parents can get him an age-appropriate toy or whatever else he might need.
