Take Afghanistan as an example. They took part in - or at least helped - the attack against the United States on 9/11. We went in, kicked ass, removed their government, installed a new government, we are hoping for the best, while trying to leave as quickly as we can. This is wrong, and it sends the wrong message. We should be sending more troops - a lot more. Build two huge training bases, one each side of the country. Have a problem in a certain area? Fine - send in ten thousand troops and have them build an outpost until we figure out who is attacking us and then destroy them. This would give us massive military bases right in all of the areas we need to be in - Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, Irag, Syhria, Israel, Ukraine.... What that you say? There is a problem in Ukraine and we need to send in troops? No problem. We can send in an two airborne division that are stationed in Afghanistan.
Do you see my point? This sends a message. It says "don't fuck with us". It sends a message to others too, such as Russia and China.
Our military is taxed? LOL. No it isn't. Our military expands and contracts as needed. Right now we have just over a million men under arms. During Vietnam we had four million in uniform. During WWII we had 12 million.
It would surely cost us a lot though. But that's fine. Our economy is booming, right? The government should be swimming in money, right? Sure sure.
Or maybe I should just take a xanax.

EVERY government since the big guy with a club dragged his woman off by the hair.... used force to protect the borders and trade routes. every country is engaged in one form of this or another. nationalism = tribalism
personally I would prefer to leave them alone HOWEVER the death toll rises, trade gets fucked up etc... not an easy situation.
see if this makes sense to you. there are 2 common boundaries for trust, familial trust and societal trust.
the west as 'civilized' has social trust. you have an issue, you call the cops. many of the 'relocated' populations have only familial trust meaning if you have an issue you call your family and they take care of it.
when relocated populations isolate themselves and refuse to learn the langue or assimilate in anyway societal trust is not developed. it's takes many generations for this to happen, however in our times familial is trust is promoted as 'pride in your culture'.
I have a buddy form central America, his dad came up with the family with like $200, the man stayed with another family, when my buddy was 7 or 8, he spoke no English at the time. he was placed in school where the class were taught in ENGLISH only he speaks perfect English, he is very educated and now he is a key personal in the film biz.
his father is a dentist with 2 offices. in cases like this you have to wonder how it would have turned out had the government helped.
