I think a VPS is a great idea with Vacares. I did that myself and then moved to a dedicated smoothly with them after my site grew.
I'm now running sites that do 12k a day in traffic, no lag

I have similar websites as you too!
Eventually cheaper hosts, shared hosts, MAY give you a warning if you drain the resources of the shared server, so VPS is generally the next step.
The other question is are your sites new? Are you struggling to generate revenue? Lots of things to think about.
One reason that pushed me to get my first and second server from Vacares was to think into the future. Knowing I had a server capable of a busy site, I was doing everything I could to make use of my bandwidth and available storage space on the server so I didn't feel like it was a useless expense. It actually motivated me to work harder
