How can you start an investigation when there isn't anything to investigate?

No witnesses
Honestly what do you investigate? Please tell me? The point everyone is trying to make is there has to be a bread crumb in order to at least start at point A. No one is defending this guy, people are defending the idea that people's lives should be destroyed going forward and the burden of proof is on the accused. This is insane logic.
