Now any jackass can create a professional looking blog and pretend they are a legit news organization - and people believe it. The wilder the claims are the most clicks they get. This is what is fueling the division in this country, and it's ALL on the Republican side. We don't have Democratic sites making insane claims causing armed men to walk into Republican run pizza places to arrest criminals.
And people suck this shit up. My local city councilman posted a link a few months ago to a blog about the children being held in immigration and he said "I found this article to be correct, informative, and unbiased". If you look at the main page of the blog it was obvious it was completely biased. The article talked about how the Trump administration was only "enforcing the law" and they could not make changes without a vote in Congress. Well, turns out that was pure bullshit. People read this shit and believe all of it.
The first thing I do whenever I click on any news link is click out to the front page and see if they are biased or not.

Ya know, people just are looking for folks to agree with them.
That is the heart of the matter. But I have a better picture of who America really is now.
20 years ago there were plenty of conspiracy theorist that believed in one form or another of mind control.
Now that it seems to be here, nobody's talking about it because I think they were expecting some ray-gun immediate effect kinda thing.
But the art is the oldest in the book. Tell someone something that may be true, at least in appearances anyway and dig right into a persons underlying hatred, and work from there to begin supplanting any idea you wish. Say something the subject will agree with.
Plainest example was Hitler.
But with today's tech, it may reach heights never before seen. Because the human body and it's working mind has been well studied in behavioral aspects.
It is more than possible to judge how you perceive any statement or image with facial recognition tech. Well documented but less known. I was dumbfounded in the accuracy 5 years ago. And it develops even better faster now.
And since everyone is so traceable now and we are so well connected to data streams of all sorts, and all this info is bought and sold, you are the commodity now.
Anyone wanting to promote a 'idea' or product in the future will rely on this tech.
The companies like Google and Facebook know it's dangerous potential backlash from even discussing what they have been working on.
Did anyone think it was going to stop at just selling you Tide, Crest or a Car...
Facebook has been extracting behavior data from even much older posts in photos, videos and the text you write. They know who and what you are.
They know how to market to you. Find that one 'dig' you can move with.
This is not science fiction and fantasy anymore. It's happening. just more subtle than you expected. And it has enough value to be bought, sold and traded.
I find the data that Cambridge Analytica is chastise for funny, since the same data has been given out to many before and even after the hoop-la. And re-traded/sold to who knows who. No restrictions and no penalty. You are being judged by data you can not view or even know exists.
By the way... has anyone shown exactly what kind of data was sold/given/traded and 'summed-up' buy others from Cambridge ? I doubt they really want you to know that.
I knew one day this stuff was going to be used in politics, but I never imagined so soon.
But I guess that's where the real money is anyway. What was I thinking.
Why did anyone open pandora's box.... because they can !
only awareness and rules can at least slow it's progression.
