That's typical for a career politician. During campaigning, they'll say whatever it takes to get your vote. After they get elected, they forget everything they promised and do exactly what it is they'd secretly planned to do from the very beginning. And if you don't like it, fuck you.
Career politician + campaign + "I promise" = red flag
Kinda like how a guy who's dying to get laid will tell a woman whatever it takes to get in her pants. And then forget about her the next day.
