regarding subdomains, I just have domains like exampledomain.com and now its changing it to https://www.domain.com and it says that error above, very confusing

I used the TXT record instead of the cname record for the verification of ownership step. So, I am not sure what the issue with the cname record you have is. You might try killing the cname record and adding a txt record.

As far as the subdomains, they are going to want at least 1. it defaults to www. Not sure how to get around that.
