If you are interested in that sort of thing, there is a Netflix documentary series called Wild Wild West which is about the Rashneesh group that moved into Oregon and tried to take over part of the state. It's a wild, crazy story that all happened in the 80's, but the thing that is relevant today is how the Rashneesh grew in power. They didn't do it with force, they did it with money, elections and moving people around. When you watch it, it is hard to not draw parallels to what is going on in Europe today.
