This has several downsides. Your link will display as raw text and won't be clickable (no analytics feedback) . If someone wants to open your link, they'll have to copy and paste it into a browser, where it will work normally. Thing is, who knows how many people are willing to take that extra step.

Twitter had always been a great resource for generating traffic, interest, and some conversions. Maybe this technique will help a bit.
