Charles Whitman 52 years ago killed and wounded 47 people and did the bulk of the killing, if not all, with a bolt action rifle that only holds 4 or 5 rounds in an internal magazine. He did have other weapons with him including a semi auto M1-Carbine that was once an actual military weapon.
A friend of mine once said that people should be glad that shooters use so called "assault rifles" instead of an actual high powered bolt action rifle that is deadly accurate and has tremendous killing power. There is much truth to that statement.

I agree, assault weapons are a small part of the problem. although the tragic use of them in school shootings is horrific.
