John Edwards did this same thing when he was running for POTUS and paid off his mistress. He was able to convince a jury that the money was to save his marriage not help his campaign. Had he not been able to do that, he likely would have went to jail.
So, it's fine to shrug off Trump cheating on his wife. I personally don't give a shit who he is or is not fucking. However, if you believe in the rule of law you can't just give him a pass because he may have committed a felony.
