south snottsdale is fine... once you cross thomas or so you are in the area. i stayed up at the hilton for a few nights working for a medical company. i walked to the store to get some snacks and things. A skinhead guy stops in the road and says wtf are you doing here?? i just kept walking. I had to test the theory that people were talking about in our local papers. the no n-word zone is true!

If you’re black, it’s assumed you’re guilty, even if nothing is wrong.

Before I was around, they had rioting in my city. I’m told they had curfews, no one out after 8 pm, no groups of color allowed to gather, etc. My father was forced to close his store at 7 pm. He had a lot of black customers and told to discourage them, he refused. Their money is green and that’s all that matters, he said. Black cop said he didn’t know what discrimination was, after dad said it was discrimination. “I’m a Jew. I know what discrimination is and I’m not banning your people because some can’t behave. Arrest me and I’ll drag you to court.” White cop intervened and they left. Black people rioted and tore up many projects. Those projects are still there but well maintained. Arrested? Evicted. Loud music? Three warnings then eviction. No bullshit allowed.

People still hold grudges against black folks over that. I did a paper in high school on it and it began when police shot a black teen. Back then it was local news only. Today it reaches worldwide audiences. There are newspaper rumors of a lack of black cops due to discrimination which is ludicrous. ALL colors of cops are needed, particularly when 20% of the population are African-American/Cape Verdean.

No ‘n’ zones? Seriously? Is that a “don’t be in this neighborhood after 8 as it’s dangerous” or “no ni**ers allowed” in our town? I’ve heard of blacks being forced to move for safety issues as neighbors didn’t want them there.

I emailed a black attorney friend for his take on this. We get into long discussions of racism and he encounters it all the time being a black attorney. I keep reminding him that 22% of new students entering Harvard are black. Not all black people are the Evans from Good Times.
