90% of the BUYERS of this ads ARE AFFILIATES !!!
what has changed is just the fact that the biz split into more professional parts.
the affiliate (now called: media buyer) have no skills, no time and no interest in generating traffic - he is just good in sending the right tap to the right pot and is able to reach better results.
on the other hand there are the people what are just focused on traffic generation.
they do not have the skills, the time and the interest to market this traffic.
if you ask me: a perfect situation when everyone is doing what he can do best.
