Have you ever met anyone in real life who exemplified low class? After reading the ‘pronunciation’ thread, I thought if a woman I worked with occasionally. We had different shifts.

Woman from Medford (Meffa). She was very, very low-class. She’d stop walking on the Longfellow Bridge, cars would stop, and if the guy was cute, offer a blow job for a ride to the T station. Her words exactly. She’d walk into our building courtyard and lift her shirt, no bra, to show her 40D breasts. You’d hear ‘fat cow!’ and ‘blubber butt’ yelled in a professional building courtyard. She admitted that when living in Lynn, she almost got caught but proudly said she’d offer blow jobs for cigarettes in front of convenience stores. Go home with a few cartons and a dozen or more loose packs and she’d sell the extras.

Culture shock to me. She had six kids, six fathers and got cash and food stamps from each. She’d sell them for $3/$10 in food stamps. She worked but told the boss her name was another name. Her friend of that name cashed the checks.

She called in one day and her four-year old son was in the background. He was talking and I couldn’t understand him. “Ma I wanna ‘bih mac’. Big Mac. “I godda shit buwee (but we) gono (got no) rollastuf (roll of stuff). She says, “get yer ass in da bafroom n use a shirt from da lonry (laundry) but stuffit ina bottom”. It left me reeling. I asked if he went to day care and she said, “naw, his brudder washes (watches) him”. His brother is fifteen but quit school, somehow, to work at a factory by saying he was eighteen. He quit that, too, and stayed home to babysit but would go out and leave the kid alone. His father bought him a car and no license, so Mom sold it for $1,000. Father paid $10,000.

Her fourteen-year-old daughter was pregnant by a “ni**er” she said but it might be “the spic nex door) who fucked her. The kid looked Asian and she said the “ch*nk delivery guy” was daddy but she was glad; “free ch*nk food”.

She got pregnant, again, by a navy guy on leave. She fucked him for an ounce ... of pot. Pot was around $100/lb or $10/oz. The guy ran away and she had no idea where he was based. She got a daughter for ten bucks basically.

The more I heard, the more I was grateful my parents raised me the way they did. I’d never heard such bigotry and ignorance. I knew uneducated people who spoke proper English but the things she said and did were almost imaginary.
