also 'conversion rates' is kind of a baseless term these days anyway. some sites convert with your traffic, some don't. Some can push the same site with as much traffic and can't convert it at all. given the amount of traffic sources and variations these days and the amount of sites getting an overall conversion ratio would be like someone asking you whats it like outside? and responding with the avg temperature on earth as your answer.

In general the people who focus and filter their traffic the best convert extremely well compared to someone who doesn't. If your overhead costs and time is substantially less than what you are making over an extended period of time? you are heading in the right direction. If not? you need to retool your strategy.
The only question is, are they making more money prior to the deluge of free porn?

People who focus and filter traffic to get the best traffic. Are reducing the amount of traffic they get.

Everyone agrees that Tubes devastated the industry. But they were just an extension of TGPs. This industry closed its eyes to the hard facts the more free porn they gave away the worse conversion rates became. Because new users were coming online faster than deteriorating conversions. Now those new users are gone and new users don't even have a credit card, so get into the habit of accessing porn for free. Which this industry continues to supply them.
