they all were. Either his quote was taken out of context or his god complex has taken over completely.
That being said. The best guitar players ever are probably studio musicians whom you have never heard of and will never in their life write anything of meaningful significance compared to the ones who are successful at it. Being the best at an instrument isn't enough normally.
