- don't mix different alcohol, if you stick with 1 drink the whole night the hangover will be less
- don't drink cheap wine/beer/liquor, it really makes the hangover worse
- drink 1 glass of water after each glass of alcohol, it makes you pee more but it really works so it's worth it
- if you are into coke, take a bump now and then throughout the night, it always results in far less hangover for some reason
- when you get home drink more water and take a paracetamol and go to sleep
- as soon as you wake up drink more water and take another paracetamol if you feel heavy headed
This is my routine and I am never hangover and function completely fine the next day.

This may be not a recipe, but the fact that your body got used to heavy drinking (few nights a week for 20 years is WOOOOOW).
Major alcoholics also do not feel much hungover, due to the fact they are used to drinking so much.
